For many of
those who travel to Tokyo, taking a Japanese etiquette crash course is a good
idea. While the people are welcoming and accommodating, gaining a cultural understanding makes the experience better.

Public Etiquette
Blowing
your nose in public is frowned upon; it is much more acceptable to do it in a
bathroom. Also, wearing a surgical mask is a cleaner alternative to covering up
a cough using your hands. In larger cities, people dress well, whether it is
for work or play. As a visitor, take the cue and put some thought into your outfits.
Also,
eating on the go is not popular. While it might seem normal in other places, it
is advisable to consume food in the place where it has been bought.
Alternatively, find somewhere to sit before eating.
Have Ample Cash
Using physical
cash is widespread in Japan. Visitors to Tokyo should plan on having as much of
it as possible or use cards that allow inexpensive cash withdrawals. Also,
having a coin purse is necessary, as many small value transactions are
transacted in coins. Coin purses are among the most popular tourist souvenirs
sold.

Visiting Tokyo? First Time Travel Tips
Carry Trash
One of the
most peculiar things about exploring cities like Tokyo is that there are almost
no public trash cans. The available bins are privately managed or present in
vending machines to collect recyclable cans. People carry their trash with them
and dispose of it when returning to their homes or hotel rooms.
Have Fun
There are
plenty of places to visit and sights to take in while in Tokyo. Consider
spending a day at Ueno Park, the city's largest park with beautiful foliage and
access to the Tokyo National Museum. A tour of the Imperial Palace - located in
the central part of the city - should also be on the itinerary, as should a
visit to the Meiji Shrine.
